First impressions of Vienna

I would really love to paint a super romantic picture of what I felt the first time I ever came to Vienna. But that comes later. My first ever thought about this place was something along the lines of "Fuck, it's windy here!" But then again it was February, so what did I expect?

But I came back, so something must've impressed me, right? And this time it was summer. I was living pretty close to the center, close to the Donaukanal, the sky was blue, the sun was shining and the birds were singing (told you I would get all romantic and stuff ;)). And one of the first things that hit me this time around was that there were soooooo many people just hanging out outside in parks, on the streets, on the Donaukanal, in Museums Quartier, wherever. In the middle of the day, middle of the week, just enjoying the sun. And that's when the second thing hit me: it's legal to drink in public spaces! And I don't mean getting batshit drunk and annoying, but just hanging out with your friends in park and drinking cheap beer from Billa instead of overpaying for drinks in a pub (I'm from Eastern Europe, so everything seems expensive to me).

Anyway, these were the first things I noticed when I got here that summer. Autumn is an entirely different story that I'll get to in a different post. That's when it really gets cheesy!

O.
